I wrote this a few years ago when the movie, God’s Not Dead came out. I believe it was around March 2014. There have been a couple more since then, and I have watched them all so far. This first one however, is my favorite. After seeing that movie there was one thing that stayed with me, and really is the truth we all need to remember. So I decided to share it here, and I know someday, when we stand before God, suddenly everything our life consisted of and everything that came our way, will make sense. Perfect sense that was designed by a perfect God.
“Sometimes God says no.” This was a statement made by a young Christian man in the recent movie, God’s Not Dead. I saw the movie a few weeks ago in the theater, and I must say, it was one of the best movies I have ever seen. A college professor told his students to write an essay entitled, God is Dead. One student, however, refused because he was a Christian and could not bring himself to write those words. The professor told him he had 3 opportunities to speak to the class, proving that God was not dead and if he could not do so, he would indeed fail him. To make a long story short, the student did an amazing job in explaining why there simply must be a God, but then, was asked by the professor one of life’s greatest questions. “Why then”, he began, “would such a loving God, if he did exist, permit pain and suffering.? Why, when I pleaded for God to heal my grandmother, nothing happened? There was no healing, and as a young boy, I watched her slowly and painfully endure this horrible disease until she finally died. I watched her suffer, all the while begging God to heal her, yet He did nothing. Can you explain that to me”? he shouts at his student. The young man simply looks at him, and in a soft voice answers, “No sir, I can’t, except that sometimes, God says no”.
Ahhh, yes. Sometimes He does. In times when we don’t understand, we need to fall back on our faith. When we ‘feel’ hopeless, remind yourself it is only a feeling. Hope hasn’t died. When you think you have no more strength to walk another step, don’t. Let Jesus carry you. Sounds simple, I know. But He will and He does. All we see is the here and now. If you look back, I am sure you can see Gods fingerprints all over your life. Sure, some valleys have been hard, painful and even scary at times, but you are here. You made it through. God provided; maybe not always what you wanted, but always what you needed. So dear friend, trust Him with your tomorrows; all of them. He sees the whole picture, where as we see it only in part. “Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely. 1 Corinthians 13:11-13 God promises us unconditional love, forgiveness and is faithful to never leave us on our own. He walks with us each and every step. He loves you more than you can ever imagine. He is an awesome God, but sometimes- yes, sometimes, God says no.
